PV Technical Sales Certification Information

The NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification is a voluntary certification that provides a set of national standards by which PV Technical Sales Professionals with skills and experience can distinguish themselves from competitors. Certification provides a measure of protection to the public by giving a credential for judging the competency of practitioners.

The target candidate for NABCEP certification is a person with job descriptions such as salesperson, application engineer, financial or performance analyst, or site assessor.

The NABCEP PV Technical Sales Certification has been developed in accordance with the certification field’s best practices and is based on a comprehensive Job Task Analysis (JTA) that was developed by a wide range of leading industry professionals. In order to qualify to take the NABCEP PV Technical Sales Exam, candidates must meet certain qualifications. In addition to requirements that include a signed code of ethics and demonstrating safety training, candidates must provide documentation that verifies a combination of training and experience.

Eligibility Requirements

All candidates for the PV Technical Sales must have experience in the field selling PV systems, a specified level of training and an OSHA 10 hour construction industry card (or equivalent).

All candidates must pay for and complete an application by the exam deadline.  The specific requirements for each candidate vary by category. It is important to review the NABCEP Certification Handbook for this exam thoroughly in order to choose a category under which you will apply. In order to qualify for this exam you must meet all of the requirements for your chosen category.

PV Technical Sales Job Task Analysis (JTA)

The foundation document for all of the NABCEP Certification Exams is a detailed description of the job and subject matter involved. This is referred to as a “Task Analysis” or “Job Task Analysis (JTA).”

The NABCEP PV Technical Sales Job Task Analysis defines a set of knowledge, skills and abilities typically required of solar PV sales personnel who are responsible for site analysis, system design, ethical presentation, accurate analyses and projections of electrical and financial performance of PV systems.

The JTA is divided into eight major topic areas:

• Qualify the Customer
• Site Analysis
• Conceptual Design
• Financial Costs, Incentives, and Savings
• Financial Benefit Analysis and Financing
• Non-financial Benefit Analysis
• Performance Analysis
• Prepare Proposals
