NABCEP PV and Solar Heating System Inspector Certification Programs
The NABCEP System Inspector Program is intended for any individuals who are currently working or seeking employment in the renewable energy industry. Individuals who are performing system inspections for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s), utilities, incentive programs, investors and others performing quality assurance of photovoltaic (PV), solar heating system and code compliance should apply.
Inspectors are a key component in ensuring quality renewable energy installations for customers. The new credentials are meant to encourage those who are responsible for inspecting systems to increase their knowledge and learn what to look for when performing their job as it relates to solar technologies.
The NABCEP System Inspector Program recognizes individuals who have demonstrated the technical knowledge necessary for inspecting electrical components and systems; inspecting energy storage components and systems; inspecting mechanical/structural components and systems; and documentation for the System Inspection. NABCEP Credential holders are recognized by NABCEP on an online directory, and are provided with rights to utilize NABCEP System Inspector word and trade-marks to recognize their accomplishment to others. To earn a NABCEP Inspector credential, an individual must pass a standardize examination based on an industry validated Job Task Analysis (JTA) . The credential also recognizes a commitment to uphold a professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, and obligation to continue professional development through continuing education. To become a NABCEP System Inspector and maintain the credential, the applicant must have knowledge of applicable codes and ordinances, be able to identify all system components, and understand how to assess the safety and operation of a system. Interpretation of design plans and building documents, conducting on-site inspections, and reporting results will be part of all System Inspector examinations.
To take the NABCEP PV System Inspector exam or the NABCEP Solar Heating System Inspector exam individuals must create a personal account in my.nabcep.org and then register for the System Inspector exam of their choice.
