Clifton Park, NY, April 13, 2010 – NABCEP

NABCEP would like to congratulate the 287 newly NABCEP Certified Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Installers who were notified last week that they had passed the March 13, 2010 Installer Certification exams.

The PV Installer Certification took another giant leap with a 32% increase in candidates which ultimately led to 259 new Certified PV Installers ™. NABCEP has now awarded the PV Installer Certification to 1,196 installers around the country, a 27% increase since September 2009. In just two years, the number of active NABCEP Certified PV Installers has more than doubled from 517 in March 2008.

The ST Installer Certification saw a 10% increase in the number of candidates, and 28 candidates were awarded the Solar Thermal Installer Certification, a 100% increase from September 2009. NABCEP has certified 132 Solar Thermal installers to date. These numbers are very encouraging and mirror the progress of the PV Certification from 2003 until 2007. NABCEP expects the Solar Thermal Installer Certification to experience high growth in the next 1-2 years especially after the launch of some solar thermal incentive programs.

NABCEP will be launching a number of programs in the next year. In May, NABCEP will start accepting applications for the first administration of the Small Wind Installer Exam in September 2010.  NABCEP has recently released the Job Task Analysis (JTA) for the much awaited PV Technical Sales Certification and will soon release the Eligibility Requirements for that Certification.

Ezra Auerbach, NABCEP’s Executive Director says, “The continued impressive growth of the number of individuals who have become NABCEP Certified speaks volumes about the acceptance of our program. The numbers speak for themselves – the growth of our certificant population  shows the strong support that we enjoy from the industries we serve”.

NABCEP Releases Job Task Analysis for new Photovoltaic Technical Sales Certification

Filed under: News — nabcep @ 12:09 pm

Clifton Park, NY, April 13, 2010 – NABCEP

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners has released the newly developed Job Task Analysis (JTA) for the upcoming Photovoltaic (PV) Technical Sales Certification. The JTA is a comprehensive list of all the measurable tasks that a practitioner performs and guides the development of the exam. Ezra Auerbach, Executive Director of NABCEP, says, “NABCEP is, as always, extremely grateful for the knowledge and experience of many of the PV industry’s leading practitioners who took part in the development of this JTA”. The document may be viewed and downloaded from the NABCEP website.

The new credential will target those involved in the non-installation aspects of the sale and commissioning of a PV system. This includes analyzing customer needs and conducting a site analysis to develop a proposal which includes a conceptual design, financial analysis, and performance projections for the system. Ezra Auerbach adds, “The launching of this Certification broadens the career path opportunities for those who are successful PV Entry Level Exam candidates.”

Don Warfield, Chair of NABCEP’s Board, says, “Having a NABCEP credential for sales people is a key step in consumer protection. With the launch of this Certification consumers can have as much confidence in the sales process as they do in getting a NABCEP Certified crew leader to perform their installation.”

The first exam will most likely be in March 2011 but could be offered as early as September 2010. NABCEP is currently finalizing the eligibility requirements and developing the application to sit for the exam, which will be released on the website as soon as it is completed.
